Meeting Students’ Needs

Classroom learning and social programming are just part of what we do at John Paul II Center. By providing various therapies and services, students and adults are encouraged to live a life of independence to the best of their ability.

Whether it’s a one-on-one approach, a small group setting, or integrated directly into the classroom, our staff takes care in addressing needs based on each individual. Our goal with Related Services is to support each student or adult so they can be successful in the classroom and the community.

Speech Therapy

At the John Paul II Center for Special Learning, speech therapy is an integral part of our commitment to helping students achieve their fullest potential. Our skilled speech therapists provide individualized and group sessions tailored to each student’s unique communication needs. Therapy focuses on enhancing a wide range of skills, including language development, articulation, social communication, and alternative communication methods, such as AAC devices. By fostering effective communication, we empower students to express themselves confidently and build meaningful connections in their daily lives.

Occupational Therapy

Our experienced occupational therapists provide individualized, and group sessions based on each student’s individual goals. Therapy focuses on developing essential skills such as fine motor coordination, sensory integration, self-care tasks, and adaptive strategies to navigate daily activities. By addressing each student’s unique needs, we empower them to build confidence and achieve greater independence in school, at home, and in the community.

Behavior Specialist

At the John Paul II Center for Special Learning, our behavior specialist is dedicated to fostering students’ social-emotional learning (SEL) and social skills. Through a combination of push-in group sessions and individualized attention, the behavior specialist helps students develop the tools they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom. They also conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and design behavior intervention plans tailored to support each student’s unique needs. By creating a positive and structured environment, the behavior specialist empowers students to build meaningful relationships, regulate emotions, and thrive in their daily interactions.

Offered in group sessions within classrooms, music therapy engages students through activities such as singing, instrument play, and movement. This dynamic therapy enhances communication, motor skills, and self-regulation in a creative and supportive environment. Through the universal language of music, students are empowered to connect with others, build confidence, and explore their unique potential.

Through the therapeutic power of art, students explore their unique talents and emotions in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Therapy Animal Visits

At the John Paul II Center for Special Learning, therapy animal visits bring joy, comfort, and connection to our students on a regular basis. These specially trained animals provide a calming presence that fosters emotional well-being, reduces stress, and encourages positive social interactions. Whether through petting, cuddling, or simply sharing time together, students benefit from the unconditional love and support that therapy animals offer. These visits create meaningful experiences that enhance our nurturing environment and contribute to the overall development and happiness of our students.
