“My hope for each student this school year is to know they are a Child of God, and that God loved them before they were even born and will continue to love them forever.” – Cindy Long
Since 1986, I have worn many hats at the John Paul II Center for Special Learning. I have been a Primary Teacher, a Secondary Teacher, a Life Skills Teacher, and always, a Music Therapist. This school year I will take on a brand-new role for JPII – Director of Religious Education. In previous years, this position was part-time, with Mrs. K. visiting our center two days a week. Beginning this school year, it will be a full-time position. What does this mean? Students will be able to receive religion instruction five days a week. We will have more flexibility when scheduling school masses, enabling more diocesan priests to meet and celebrate with our students. The Tone Chime Choir will benefit from greater flexibility when scheduling performances and be able to share their special talents with the community. Students preparing for sacraments will receive weekly instruction, ensuring they are truly ready to take a more intimate role in the Catholic Church. And yes, I will continue to provide Music Therapy to all the classrooms and the Adult Program. I’m excited to lead this new opportunity that expands JPII’s “religious footprint,” fulfilling God’s decree to spread His love and message to everyone.
